The national media is beginning to take a closer look at the Kristin Smart tragedy. Two of the more famous anchor women teamed up with Mother Goose and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg to work on one story. This had never been done before. They had travelled to a Home Depot in Southern California because they heard that a very dangerous drunk driver and prime suspect in the death and disappearance of a young woman had somehow slipped through the hiring process and made his way onto the sales floor.
These dedicated and caring women wanted to ask management at Home Depot a very important moral question that confronts all responsible corporations today.
Somehow, a 3 time convicted drunk driver and nationally named suspect in the death and disappearance of a young woman had managed to pull the wool over the Human Resource department and successfully made his way onto the sales floor. Given very strict employment guidelines, Home Depot may not be able to fire anyone based on Police statements on national television.
Moreover, they may be unable to fire anyone even though this employee's lawyer offered to plea bargain a deal that would lead investigators to Kristin Smart's body in exchange for a reduced sentence. As horrible as it sounds - maybe it really is true that Home Depot's hands are tied on this one.
If it were just for that, Rita, Juliet, Ruth and Mother Goose probably never would have went to Home Depot. What got these four lovely women together was the common interest in a very important MORAL question of our time..
The Moral Question is:
Given the fact that such a person is now on the sales floor dealing with it's female customers, does Home Depot plan on at least notifying their customers that unfortunalety when they enter the store, they may come into direct contact with someone who is the Prime Suspect in a nine year old tragedy where a young co-ed has had her life stolen and her body hidden never to be found?
For example, if the roof is leaking - Home Depot will instantly tape off the area and place safety cones in the aisle. If paint accidently gets spilled - they will do the same. When it snows at one of their stores, they will shovel the snow and place rock salt in the walkways. So on and so forth...
Does Home Depot plan on placing safety cones around this Prime Suspect as he mingles amongst the female customers?
What a great question! What will Home Depot say? Just because they are legally restricted from firing someone - do they feel also that that releases them from warning their female customers?
What an interesting moral question? What should a corporation do? Protect it's employee or protect it's female customers?
Unfortunaely, we may never know because as Rita, Juliete, Ruth and Mother Goose were driving to Home Depot, they were in a small car accident at the corner of Truth and Prison Sentence Way in Hawthorne, Ca. Incredibly - though not confirmed, many people reported that this very same Prime Suspect had once again gotten behind the wheel of a car, blew off a red light and rammed his Impala right into the vehicle operated by the four women.
